Back in the Saddle Again

To remain in the same theme as my previous blogs, this would be my "comeback", as it's been a while since the last. Where have I been? Well, no where special... and that's perhaps the reason why there was nothing to blog about. But I feel time is right for another little delicious blog. Feel free to ignore these words and sentences as I merely write them down so I have it written somewhere.
So I'm back in the blogging saddle, let's get down to business. Of course, it's once more about love. Hell, what else? There's actually not much to say... I guess I could describe what's going on in merely three sentences, or maybe two more. I'm not gonna do that, I'll make this blog as lengthy as possible until you've given up reading. Now, this love of mine... It's another girl, of course, but you've read about her twice before already. What to say when I'm nearly two sentences away from having told the full story? Uhm... she looks nice... she is nice... what else? I'm listening to the new Linkin Park album right now, A Thousand Suns. Does anybody like it? You won't believe how many different opinions there are about it. I guess I'm one of the few who can actually dig the album.
Now, about this girl... I'm not sure she has any feelings for me at all. I used to think so though, but that was before... oh no, I'm going way to fast. Let's first sing along with the last few vocal lines of The Messenger. "Love keeps us blind, Love keeps us kind, oh eeeeh oh! Oh eeeh oh!" Silence... To business then: we had some really cozy times and I really started to like her again. I guess once you like somebody it's never totally over. I really thought she liked me too... I even had a witness who asked me how long it would take until we'd kiss. In the meanwhile, I have changed the music from Linkin Park to Manfred Mann's Earth Band, the 1979 album Angel Station. Quite a departure from the longer, more progressive and jazz influenced songs from the previous albums, but hey; new vocalist, new sound. Luckily the killersynth-solos are still present, and our dearest Manfred is not disappointing us. He never really does actually.
Anyway, I had made a deal with myself to ask her out for a simple movie or so (I have no fantasy when it comes to these things). That was today. I had to call her on the phone, because it would take another two weeks until I'd see her in person, and I didn't want to wait that long. Besides, in my mind she would have simply said "yes" and there would have not been a new blog. Manfred Mann and his Earth Band often cover a lot of tracks from other, lesser known artists. These covers are not your regular covers, they are complete makeovers. Try listening to Bruce Springsteen's Blinded by the Light or Spirits in the Night, and then get your ears to hear the Earth Band versions. To stop criticism: at the time the Earth Band covered those songs, Bruce Springsteen was not very well known.
I think you'll know what's coming next: she said "no". I told myself "if that would happen I would not be sad, I would just be sure about the way things were". Well, I happen to be a little... concerned after all. Not odd, seeing as this would simply be a rejection, which is never a person's favourite experience, but that doesn't mean I can't blog about it. Angel Station is a peculiar record; most tracks feature this descending six-tone melody somehow woven into their themes, which does give the album something magical... somehow. All songs are connected. Not lyrically, but musically. Still, four out of the nine tracks are cover songs. Perhaps they sound really good, but it's a little disappointing somewhere.
But I don't understand a thing of what's happening. She didn't actually say "no" by the way, but she said she was "busy". I think that means the same. She sounded pretty stressed on the phone, as if she wanted to get rescued out of a bizarre situation. And the connection wasn't very stable. I heard a lot of creaks. I guess "no" actually means "no" and I should just stop thinking about it, but somehow I can't. Hollywood Town is originally a song by Harriet Schock, whoever that may be. At times like these it's impossible to trace the original. Probably a minor and local hit at the time. And of course they did not have youtube to instantly share all of your music videos. Ah... finally. A real Earth Band original: Belle of the Earth. The newly added second vocalist handles the verses, while the other vocalist, present since 1976, sings the choruses. A short track, but quite powerful.
I guess the future will be just me listening to my music. One, maybe two days of sadness and then I will be as good as new again. On to explore new territories, to new frontiers... Hey, at least I tried. I guess that's kinda like being a machine. I've had it before. You get hurt, but two days later you're wondering why the hell you felt so miserable. I guess reason in the end can't function when you're controlled by your emotions. One of my favourite tracks from this album must be Angels At My Gate. An original track, with that new vocalist again. The instrumental part of solos is truly amazing. A special song.
Boy, was I shaking when holding that phone. It doesn't make sense at all. I told myself all the time nothing bad could happen. But I wouldn't listen. I had the phone in my hand for thirty minutes before I finally pressed the button... and that wasn't because I had other things to do. 58, 56, 54 and Angels at my door. 63, 62, 61, 60, 59, 58 and Angels at my gate. wow!
You know, in the period preceding this... 'event', I wrote her a song and a poem... two pieces of 'art' that lost all of its value as of three hours ago. To the song, originally a ballad, I wrote a part II counterpart featuring lots of heavier and more aggressive versions of the themes featuring in part one. But do I have the will to write lyrics for this angrier version? You Are - I Am is the counterpart to Hollywood Town. Almost the same in ambience and build-up. This time it's not a cover though. After this one, there's two more tracks until this album ends and the 1975 classic Nightingales and Bombers will commence. To lovers of progressive rock music I really recommend that one. It's magical. It's also by Manfred Mann's Earth Band.
I'm done blogging for now. I hope you enjoyed reading it. If you have the desire to comment on the blog, be my guest, but experience told me people really do not care about other people's problems. I even catch myself on thinking mine are more important than those of a friend. I try not to though...
